Lincoln C. Chen, President

Lincoln C. Chen is President of the China Medical Board. Started in 1914, the Board was endowed by John D. Rockefeller as an independent American foundation to advance health in China and Asia by strengthening medical education, research, and policies.

Dr. Chen was the founding director of the Harvard Global Equity Initiative (2001-2006), and in an earlier decade, the Taro Takemi Professor of International Health and Director of the University-wide Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies (1987-1996). In 1997-2001, Dr. Chen served as Executive Vice-President of the Rockefeller Foundation, and in 1973-1987, he represented the Ford Foundation in India and Bangladesh.

In 2008, Dr. Chen assumed the Chair of the Board of BRAC USA, having completed two terms as Chair of the Board of CARE/USA in 2007. He serves as Co-Chair of the Advisory Committee to the FXB Center on Health and Human Rights at Harvard. Dr. Chen also serves on the Board of the Social Science Research Council, the Institute of Metrics and Evaluation (University of Washington), the Public Health Foundation of India, and the UN Fund for International Partnership (counterpart to the UN Foundation). He was the Special Envoy of the WHO Director-General in Human Resources for Health (2004-2007), and the Founding Chair of the Global Health Workforce Alliance (2006-2008).

Dr. Chen is a member of the National Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Medicine, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the World Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the Council on Foreign Relations. He graduated from Princeton University (BA), Harvard Medical School (MD), and the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health (MPH).

Shenieque T. Bennett, Office Manager (Cambridge, USA)

Shenieque Bennett joined the China Medical Board in October 2009 as the Administrative Assistant to the President. In July 2011, she took on a new role as Office Manager. Her new responsibilities focus on managing numerous administrative tasks for the Cambridge office, such as internal and external office communication and correspondence, IT services, along with assurance of the maintenance of office equipment. Shenieque is also reponsible for the CMB intranet and website and digital photo retention filings. She works closely with and assists the Accounting Manager, Grants Manager, Executive Assistant, and Director of Finance and Operations. Shenieque comes to CMB with over 12 years of administrative experience in health care, academia, legal services, and computer software industries. Prior to joining CMB, Shenieque was an accounting assistant at Harvard School of Public Health and for the Sponsored Research Administrative Department, assisting in proposals and grants management administration. She has studied business administration and accounting at Bay State College and Emmanuel College.

Chen Ling, Research Fellow (Cambridge, USA)

Chen Ling joined CMB as a research fellow in July 2011. Her current research work focuses on health care history of China and strategic philanthropy. Chen received her MPH degree in Global Health from Harvard School of Public Health and Master of Dental Science degree from West China University of Medical Sciences.

Cheng Chen, Accounting Manager (Cambridge, USA)

Cheng Chen joined the CMB in May 2011. As the Accounting Manager, she is responsible for the management and maintenance of CMB's financial records, in charge of month/year-end close, preparing financial statements and reports, working with auditors on the year-end audit and tax filings, and assisting with preparation of annual budgets and board meeting records. Prior to joining CMB, Cheng was the financial analyst at Harvard Medical School for three years. She also worked at the Bank of New York/Mellon as an analyst in the client accounting and reporting group for more than three years. She received her Master of Science degree in accounting from Suffolk University and a bachelor's degree in accounting from Guizhou College of Finance & Economics.

 Sally Paquet, Director of Finance and Operations (Cambridge, USA)

Sally Paquet joined the China Medical Board in November 2008 as the Assistant to the President. In August 2009, she was promoted to Director of Administration. As of August 2011, her title changed to Director of Finance and Operations to better emphasize her overall responsibilities. Sally's tasks are varied, with her working in close collaboration with the President and Cambridge and Beijing staff on office policies and procedures, human resources issues, financial and annual account audit oversight, Board meetings and Trustee records. She serves as the Assistant Secretary to the Board of Trustees. Sally has strong international professional experience, having worked in France and the United Kingdom over the past 13 years in different industries: academia at INSEAD, AOG Advisory Services Ltd, a corporate head office for a Swiss Energy company and HR Access UK, a start-up company owned by Fidelity Investments. Sally studied at Western Illinois University and at the American University in Paris, France. She completed various French language certificates from La Sorbonne.

Mariel Reed, CMB Centennial Projects Coordinator (Beijing, China)

Mariel Reed joined the CMB Beijing office in January 2012. She is tasked with coordinating the CMB's Centennial Projects, including video, book publication, and multimedia initiatives. Prior to working at CMB, Mariel was a Princeton in Asia Fellow in Xinjiang, China. She has also studied Chinese in Harbin, Chengdu, and most recently in Nanjing with a Critical Language Scholarship sponsored in part by the US Department of State. She received her bachelor's degree in International Politics and Asian Studies at Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service in 2010.

 Sarah Wood, Executive Assistant to the President (Cambridge, USA)

Sarah Wood joined the China Medical Board in November 2011 as the Executive Assistant to the President. Sarah recently retired from Harvard after 33 years, 25 of those years at the School of Public Health, working with the Dean of HSPH and former Provost of Harvard, and most recently working in the Office for External Relations at HSPH. She will work closely with members of CMB, the Board of Trustees, Beijing and Bangkok staff. Sarah has a BA degree in Elementary Education; she enjoys taking language classes at Harvard Extension School and takes pleasure in international travel.

Roman (Dong) Xu, Director of Beijing Office (Beijing, China)

Roman (Dong) Xu, based in Beijing, joined the China Medical Board as its Director of New Initiatives in July 2008 after having served as the Asia Pacific Regional Director of Harvard Medical International (HMI), a self-supporting not-for-profit subsidiary of Harvard University since 2005. Before joining HMI, Mr. Xu was a Senior Health Policy Analyst at the Minneapolis headquarters of Medtronic, Inc., a leading medical technology company in US.  During 1996–2002, he was the Assistant Director for International Collaborations at the Chinese Medical Association. Roman Xu obtained his Master in Public Policy degree in 2004 from Harvard University with a concentration in health policy.  He received an award for the best Policy Analysis Exercise upon graduation for his paper entitled A Political Economy Analysis of the Group Purchase of Drugs by Competitive Bidding in China. Mr. Xu received his undergraduate education at West China University of Medical Sciences from 1991–1996 in Chengdu, China.

Linda (Na) Zhou, Grants Manager (Beijing, China)

Linda Zhou joined CMB as Staff Assistant of the Beijing Office in February 2009. Her responsibilities include assisting with office management and maintenance, meeting and travel planning and coordination. Linda received her MA degree in simultaneous interpretation of English and Chinese from Beijing Foreign Studies University, and completed her undergraduate study at Peking University with a BA in Biomedical English and a BE in Economics. She is the translator of three books published by prestigious Chinese academic publishers, and the interpreter for many international conferences. She has worked as an assistant to the general managers of three companies, pioneering the development of their European and US markets

 


Echo (Huiying ) Zong, Administrative Assistant (Beijing, China)

Echo Zong joined CMB in November 2010 as an administrative assistant in the Beijing office. She is responsible for providing administrative support to the office as well as facilitating logistical arrangements for program activities and events. Before joining CMB, Echo served as an administrative assistant in the Southeast Asian regional office of Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition, a Swiss foundation whose mission is to reduce malnutrition for populations at risk around the world. Previously, she gained administrative and financial experience working for a U.S. real estate group and as the assistant to the Beijing chief representative of a Taiwan bank. Echo received her bachelor’s degree from Tianjin University of Commerce in 2002.
