CMB President's Council Meeting in Guangzhou

On June 15-16, 2010, CMB trustees and presidents and vice presidents of CMB Chinese grantee universities met in Guangzhou, China the 2010 CMB President Council Meeting. This meeting, held every two years, was hosted at Sun Yat Sen University (SYSU) and supported by CMB with three purposes: (1) gathering grantee university presidents, vice presidents, and deans to inform CMB programs, (2) promote exchange and sharing, (3) discuss the theme of frontier challenges in medical education and research in China from a global perspective.

Representing CMB were trustees Mary Bullock, Tom Inui, and Jane Henney, as well as President Lincoln Chen, Sally Paquet and CMB Beijing staff. Beginning with a welcome dinner hosted by SYSU Vice President Li Mengfeng on June 15, the meeting continued on June 16 with three panel discussions chaired by CMB trustees with program briefings by CMB staff and case reports by CMB grantee participants. Panel I: Health Policy and Systems Sciences (HPSS) was chaired by trustee on Tom Inui; Panel II: Medical Education, was chaired by trustee Jane Henney; Panel III: Western Rural Health Network was chaired by Mary Bullock. The closing panel, Tobacco Control, was chaired by Lincoln Chen.

The meeting closed in the evening of June 16 with an informal cruise on Guangzhou’s scenic Pearl River.
